Planaria
Open the shipping jars of Planaria at once on arrival and place the Planaria in a larger container. White enamel pans about one inch deep are ideal or glass dishes of similar shape. Change the water.
Water: Place a few Planaria in your tap water for a few hours and if they calm down and appear to either just crawl around slowly or remain still, your water is safe. If they remain very agitated over a five minute period or ball up and stay that way, your water is unsafe; then you must use creek, spring or lake water. Keep the water clean by changing it every other day. Cooled, boiled tap water or bottled spring water may be safe; test it first. Do not use distilled water.
Changing Water: If any Planaria are on the surface of the water or loosely attached to the edge of the container, use a clean finger and wipe them free from the edge and agitate them vigorously for a moment; they will then settle and again attach themselves to the container. You now can safely pour the water from the container without pouring out the planaria if you are careful. Water should be changed daily.
Food: Feed Planaria once a week to maintain them, and two to three times per week for growth. Hard-boiled egg yoke, fresh liver (except pork), tubifex and earthworms are good. Place a small piece in the dish and permit the planaria to feed for one or two hours, Remive the food and change the water two or more times. If the dish is slimy, pour the Planaria into another container and wipe the original container thoroughly with a clean towel and then replace the Planaria with clean water in the clean container. They may live months if properly cared for.
Temperature: For best results keep them 50-70 degrees F (10-20 degrees C) Sudden changes of temperature will not harm your planaria if you keep the water 50-70 degres F when changing them.
Light: Planaria prefer darknessor low indirect illumination.
